![]() |
The CFTHQ, tourist railway of the Haut Quercy, is a non-profit association, with 5 permanent employees and about 200 members. Founded in 1991, the objective is the safeguard and the tourist operation of the railway line between Martel and Saint Denis Les Martel and the restoration of rolling material. This part of the railway line between Bordeaux and Aurillac has been built between 1880 and 1884, and opened for service in 1889. At this point, the line competed strongly with the boat (gabare) traffic on the "Hope River" (Dordogne). Dismantled in 1917 by the Americans arrived to help in the "Great War", the line was re-opened in 1918 with rail arrived by boat from America. the parts of 10 m were soldered two by two, to increase the comfort and for economy (less joints to maintain). |
During the period between the two wars the line was used to transport truffles coming from Martel's market, one of the most important in France. the name of " Truffadou " derives from this time. the part of the line of interest to us is cut in the cliffs of Mirandol, overlooking the Dordogne by 80 m. |
